Dr. Jacqui Keane

Jacqui Keane has a PhD in Software Engineering from NUI Maynooth, Ireland. She made the transition to bioinformatics in 2007, joining the Wellcome Sanger Institute to work on a project to analyse some of the first next generation sequence (NGS) data being produced at the institute. From 2010-2019, she was Head of Pathogen Informatics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and was responsible for managing a team that provided informatics support to the Pathogen Genomics research program. During that time she led the development of many key pipelines and analysis software for NGS data for pathogens including Roary, Gubbins, ARIBA, Circlator, Artemis, ACT and GeneDB. This software has been cited over 5000 times.

Jacqui has also collaborated with the Wellcome Connecting Science programme to develop, lead, and deliver over 15 bioinformatics courses in the areas of next-generation sequencing bioinformatics, pathogen genomics, and introduction to bioinformatics.

Jacqui is currently an independent genomics consultant and works with organisations such as Wellcome Connecting Science, University of Cambridge and The Quadram Institute.
